Since 2020, I started ditching physical books and went on to be a digital reader. I didn’t like the fact that I have to face a dilemma of whether to keep or throw a book after I had finished reading it, particularly a book that sits on the fence with my liking (side effect of Konmari). Not only does reading digitally saves me space and money, I also started appreciating the convenience of audiobooks that save me so much time - perfect for a multitasker like me.

However, reading off my laptop has not been the most convenient approach. It works and I love my Macbook with all my heart, just that (1) I can’t bring my Macbook everywhere with me without feeling the weight (2) the computer screen strains my eyes after reading several pages.

A few Youtubers that I follow (like Jenn Im and Ali Abdaal) constantly rave about their Kindles, but it's such a challenge to find one in Malaysia, physically. I wanted to see and feel it with my own hands before deciding if it's my cup of tea (another side effect of Konmari: I wanted to make sure it will spark joy)

During the Lunar New Year at the start of February this year, my cousin showed up with a Kindle in her handbag. I finally got to try it out - and yes, I liked it right away. So when my mom asked me what I wanted for my birthday, which was on the 12th of February, I asked for a Kindle.

I chose the Kindle Basic (10th Generation, released in 2019) because I just don’t see a point in paying so much for a Kindle Paperwhite. I could basically get 2 Kindle Basics if I were to go with the Kindle Paperwhite, so nah

After comparing for a really long time, I eventually bought my Kindle from this seller. I bombarded them with a bunch of questions and they answered me patiently. Also, this seller offers 1 year of warranty at the most competitive price (MYR 359). They shipped out in 2 hours after the payment was completed. The delivery was shockingly fast too - less than 30 hours to arrive in Penang from KL.

* Due to the fact that Amazon doesn't ship to Malaysia, the majority of the sellers in Malaysia import their Kindles from Amazon Japan. The warranties are not provided by Amazon but by the sellers themselves. While browsing the Internet you can see sellers pricing the same model of Kindle at different prices depending on the length of warranty that you are comfortable with.

Let's unbox with me!

To my surprise, this Kindle Basic comes in a really small box. There’s a tab to be teared off to prove that it’s a brand new product.

In the box, there’s a plastic sleeve, that holds the Kindle, its cable, and a small instruction guide.
I accidentally included my black kitty cable organizer in this photo xD

I bought my Kindle cover from this Shopee seller (link here) at approximately RM16 with free shipping from China. I recommend choosing something with a strap that makes holding your Kindle easier while reading.

This Kindle Basic weighs less than 200g and is 6 inches in size. Even my small handbags could fit it in. It has a lower screen resolution (800 x 600 pixels) in comparison with the other Kindles but it does not matter to me because I only read texts. If you are a fan of comic books, maybe you should consider something with a higher resolution and perhaps a bigger screen.

My favourite function is this:
If you’d like to look up a word, just press on it. A toolbox will pop up.

There you have, a built-in dictionary. I can finally leave my phone aside while reading now.

Swipe right for Wikipedia.

Swipe right again to translate that specific word to another language of your choice.

Unfortunately, I have to sacrifice my love for colourful highlights.

Highlighting only comes in grey on my Kindle due to its e-ink display.

Most would argue that spending money on a Kindle is kinda stupid when you could choose an almighty iPad. For me, the whole e-ink technology is the main reason behind my purchase. I spend a lot of time in front of computer screens. Therefore, when I get off work to chill, I prefer to find something that doesn't strain my eyes, which is the benefit of Kindle's e-ink display.

That said, I don't recommend buying a Kindle right away if you are never a reader, to begin with. It's like buying a whole closet of Lululemon or Adidas thinking those gears will make you a fitness enthusiast overnight. If you are someone who reads on a regular basis and has no problem reading digitally, I really do recommend getting at least an entry-level Kindle like this. I enjoy it a lot myself.

For Malaysians who are thinking to get a Kindle, the receipt of your Kindle purchase could be used to make an income tax claimant. Just talk to the seller and get a receipt issued under your name. Now your Kindle will be even more cost-effective than it originally is!

I totally forgot about that gigantic pack of oats which I bought quite some time ago. The expiration date is just a few weeks away and how am I suppose to finish all of them in such a short time?

I haven't added a new blog post to Fion's Cookbook series for quite some time. In retrospect, that "some time" means a few years! My usual diet just consists of a lot of lean protein, fruits and vegetables, so I don't think there's much to blog about.

I love cooking pasta dishes. I don't know why but I just really like them. A few years ago, I shared my simple carbonara recipe but today I'm writing about cooking Aglio Olio pasta in a very lazy manner. That being said though, I promise that it still tastes Good - with a capital G!

I was going to buy my mom a buffet dinner at G Hotel sometime during Christmas or NYE after trying out their Christmas buffet menu in mid November. Unfortunately, my mom fell sick during that period of time so we had to postpone the plan.

The first Saturday of 2019, we finally went to G Hotel Gurney's Taste Cafe for our overdue holiday dinner date.

8 years ago, I was forced to watch a Korean drama while I was on a school bus by my junior, Victoria. I was trying to take a nap while she pestered me to watch the show with her and insisted that I should open my eyes immediately because..."the lead actor is cute and he plays the guitar!"

Little did I know, that moment would get me so hooked on that drama, titled "You've Fallen For Me 넌 내게 반했어", which is also known as "Heartstrings". It's a youth melodrama with 15 episodes about dreams, friendship and dreams of a bunch of students from a performing arts college.

Moomba Festival's a very Melbourne thing! Organised by the City of Melbourne, Moomba Festival's a community festival with a huge variety of fun activities and events running for several days in March annually at Birrarung Marr and Alexandra Gardens on the banks of Melbourne's iconic Yarra River.

This year, Moomba Festival started on the 11th of March and ended on the 14th.

I accompanied my homie there because we had nothing major to do on that Saturday night. And since I missed out on Melbourne's New Year's eve fireworks display, I wanted to "have it replace back for free". HAHA

I HAVE A VIDEO AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE BLOG POST!

If you are too lazy to read, feel free to scroll all the way down :P

Since I am really bad with games, I decided to not waste my money to try winning a big fat plush home (plus, where should I put it in my small bedroom HAHA)

This stall had my favourites - My Little Pony & Simpsons *SCREAMS*

Haunted house - prolly something that attracted me to but I was too chicken to go in.

The last time I was in a haunted house was when I was 10 at the Universal Studios in LA and I literally had my eyes closed all the way...

Also too chickened out to get on rides...

The main reason I came here was for the sake of free fireworks ^^

It's all worth it xD

Well...Because I didn't have any main thing to do at the Moomba Festival, I decided to take some shots and some video snippets instead of wandering around blindly.

THERE YOU GO, ENJOY!!

Feel free to check out my blog post on Melbourne's White Night (Video included too :3)

Sunday, March 27, 2016

Although I have been in Melbourne for 5 years, I find that I haven't been visiting Melbourne in a very thorough touristy way.

For the first time I got back to Melbourne in the middle of February, so I got to attend the White Night  ^^

White Night's a 12-hour event running from 7pm to 7am from the 20th to 21st of February.

I was there around 9pm on the night of 20th but it was hella crowded. I was pushed around by the crowd and I couldn't even take a proper Snapchat, not to mention a photo or even a clip.

Feeling disappointed, I went home to sleep and decided to get up super early in the morning to avoid the crowd in order to have my peace :p

Here's a video clip that I compiled! First time doing such a Vlog-ish thing and I can't deny the fact it's actually pretty fun and VERY satisfying when you see the completion of the full video.

The first building that I saw when I walked down to the city from my house.

It's 5.50am and this was how the RMIT building looked like.

I headed for the State Library of Victoria and spent 15 minutes in the line waiting to get into the library.

Never seen the State Library being so crowded, like EVER - not even during exam periods.

But...It's totally worth the wait :)

The lighting effects were so mind-blowing and spectacular. I couldn't even believe that I was in the State Library anymore.

[ WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE FOR MORE ]

Came out of the State Library around 6.40am and I took a walk in the city.

The State of Library looked stunning from the outside.

Really love this picture.
When I saw this couple sitting outside the State Library, I felt that I HAD TO take this shot - I just felt that this photo's full of happiness and sincerity in its most basic form. The person who's willing to accompany you to White Night at such early hour is a keeper.

幸福,原來就是藏在我們日常的小事中~

幸福就是你陪我看我想要看的風景,而你也樂在其中...

I headed to watch the sunrise at Flinders Street Station later on. My very first sunrise watching in Melbourne - disregard the times when I woke up early to study for my exams at 4am and happened to see the sun and started to panic when I saw the sun rising as that's a signal of my 9am exam approaching me HAHA!

Stay tuned for the next blog post for the shots of Melbourne's sunrise in the summer ;)

We all have that friend who you don't text every day and don't meet very often, but in our hearts, we know that deep down, that person is no doubt one of the very best friends that we don't wanna lose.

This girl who used to be a blogger whom I looked up to as a silent reader has now become a really dear friend of mine > Chanwon Tan from www.chanwon.com

I suppose I don't need to do any further introduction about her since she is so famous already ^^ You have no idea how grateful I was when we started becoming friends on Facebook. At first I thought the 2 of us would be like those "friends" on Facebook who would never have any interactions at all, but I was wrong. Although we don't text 24/7, we still do text pretty often (I text her more often than I text my own buddies who I grew up with :p) and we tell each other problems that we have in our lives despite the fact we only see each other ONCE every year.

Yes, you read that right, it's only ONCE every year because we are separated in 2 different countries, which I guess is more than 1000 miles away!

Meeting her is something that I look forward to every time when I come back to Malaysia from Melbourne. My to-do list when I am in Malaysia will always include MEETING CHANWON & EAT WAN TON MEE! HAHAHA sorry girl, your position in my heart is parallel to wan ton mee :p (HAHA joking joking~)

I spent my very last 2 days of 2014 with Chanwon babe with lots of fun and girl talks ^^ (even though the last day was a mere 2-3 hours, it meant A LOT to me)

Thank you Chanwon babe for driving all the way from Seri Kembangan to accompany me in Subang ♥

Instead of meeting at a shopping mall or cute coffee shops, I asked Chanwon to come over to my god brother's house (because I was staying there) so that we could do a song cover together! WHEEE!!! After having lunch at Secret recipe, we headed back for real work :3

This is my girl focusing on her work!

I played the role of a "musical director" for her solo song cover which I believe she will be uploading it to her Youtube in the near future.

And, we also did a cover of a Chinese song together. To be really honest, I didn't really have the confidence to do a Chinese song cover because my housemate told me that my Chinese pronunciation is weird >< But, this time, I THINK I managed to pull it off?!?! @@

We did the recording first and then recorded a video in 1 freaking take lip syncing to our voice. So please pardon us if the voice didn't really match the video very accurate because it was a crazy rush! HAHA

Yet, it was incredibly fun!!!!! She's such a good and confident singer!!! Every time when I do a song cover, I would record it nearly over 5 or 6 times before uploading to Youtube. For Chanwon, the most she needed was only 2 times!!!

The next day we had Subway for lunch and I helped Chanwon take her #ootd :p HEHE

And we took a lot a lot of Polaroids as memory ♥

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRESENTS BABE! I'LL USE THEM WELL ^^ WAIT FOR MY TAIWAN SOUVENIRS KAYYYY~~

I wonder when will I see her again?! Gonna miss her lots~~

Sorry to disappoint you, but unlike the other bloggers out there, I don't have anything much to share about how I spent my Christmas day. Celebrating Xmas is not a norm in my family to begin with anyway.

So, I spent most of my time in front of my laptop recording and editing a song for my beloved #trebleclef XIXI~

To be really honest, I am not really familiar with this song (even after I spent hours recording and editing it) and I seldom like singing such slow song. And on the other hand, because my neighbour is having some kind of renovation that involves a lot of annoying drilling and knocking, initially I thought it was impossible for me to record this cover. However, thankfully I managed to rush through this whole thing since it's a public holiday on Christmas! KEKE!

By the way, I never like tying my hair because my face looks like a HUGE pancake but because Xixi told me that she has never seen me with my hair away from my face, so I sacrificed for her.

ARGHHHH....

My dear Xixi, Sorry to disappoint you.....

Now you know when I freaking tie up my hair, I look absolutely NOTHING like this ^

In fact, I really look hundred times worse than this ^

NOW YOU KNOW WHY I DON'T LIKE TO TIE MY HAIR!!!!! HAHAH

Anyway, hope you have an awesome day!

Love you forever! MUAKSSSS I'm really thankful that I met you through blogging. Like seriously, come to think of it, there are so many bloggers out there, but you, I would say, throughout this 1.5 year, you have been like a big sister to me. Although we don't chat everyday and we have never met in person before, you are someone who gives me the best advice that enlightens and cheers me up every single time without fail. I am forever looking forward excitedly to our meeting day! ♥

PS: I managed to find the video that you sent me during my birthday earlier this year HEHE! Here you go~

It's been a hella long time since I last did a song cover. This time, my housemate and I decided to go all out with our music passion. Since the 2 of us love music so much but we don't get to pursue anything related to music, we thought "why not do everything ourselves and learn from Google and Youtube?"

That's why for this cover, unlike my previous ones, I actually recorded it on a real condenser microphone. As we haven't mastered the mixing techniques and haven't figured out how to play around the effects on Audacity and Adobe Audition (yes, first time being exposed to audio editing programs too~!), I chose an acoustic song, so I just had to record the raw vocal kekeke! So what you are about to listen below is my pure voice with no touch-ups or any additional sugar, spice and everything nice :p

After recording the vocal, I just shot a video with myself lip syncing to my own voice! You can't believe how amused I was while doing all these by myself~ Everything is so new and I felt like I've entered into a completely world.

PS: Ignore the super messy background. Since exams are around the corner, I can't be bothered to tidy my room just yet~

Anyway, I had fun doing this song. 2NE1 is my favourite K-Pop girl group. Before I was all gaga over the K-Pop industry, I was already listening to their songs and that was before I knew any other K-Pop artistes apart from Wonder Girls and Super Junior.

Come Back Home is also one of top favourite songs by 2NE1. Chaelin and Minzy are AWESOME!!!

I'm done blabbering HAHA....Have to go back to my studies :(

Do feel free to let me know what you think about this cover :) I HOPE I did justice to this song though.....

Behind the scenes! HAHAHA

Dedicating this song to 3 of my favourite October babies - Wan Fen, Daphne who are having their birthdays on 19th and Chanwon on the 20th!

Coincidentally my besties have very similar birth dates! Save my energy! :p

The reason why I chose this song although it's not exactly a famous K-Pop song was because it (somehow) holds a lot of memories between me and my beloved girl friends.

Read the short summary on why I chose this song for you girls in the description box of the video on Youtube.com ^^

And for my #addiction, the reason why I ended up choosing this song to be performed at your wedding was because I love the lyrics and I thought it would be a good song for you and Danny!

Lyrics:

하늘에 빛나던 별이
Star that shines in the sky
저 멀리 빛나던 별이
Star that shines far away from me 내 맘에 내려왔나봐
Seems like you came down to my heart
가슴에 새겨진 별이
Star engraved in my heart
가슴에 빛나던 별이
Star that shines in my heart
아마 너인 것 같아
I think that might be you
떨리는 소리가 들리니
Can you hear a quavering voice? Oh star
뜨거운 심장을 느끼니
Can you feel my passionate heart? You’re my star
아주 오랜 먼 훗날부터
From a very long time ago
나 꿈꿔왔던 사랑이 너인걸 알아
I know that you are the love I’ve been dreaming of
언제나 함께 해줘
Let us always be together
아주 오랜 시간 흘러도
Even if time passes
늘 같은 자리에서 빛나주길
(hope that you) Always shine on the same place
내 맘, 너에게만 줄게
My heart, will only be given to you
떨리는 소리가 들리니
Can you hear a quavering voice? Oh star 뜨거운 심장을 느끼니
Can you feel my passionate heart? you’re my star
아주 오랜 먼 훗날부터
From a long time ago
나 꿈꿔왔던 사랑이 너인걸 알아
I know that you are the love I’ve been dreaming of
언제나 함께 해줘
Let us always be together
아주 오랜 시간 흘러도
Even if time passes
늘 같은 자리에서 빛나주길
(hope that you) Always shine on the same place
내 맘, 너에게만 줄게
My heart, will only be given to you
니 맘 속에 새겨진 별도
The star engraved in your heart
니 맘 속 빛나는 별도 나이길 바래
The star that shines in your heart, I hope that is me
영원히 널 사랑해
Forever I will love you
내 눈 너만 바라볼 거야
My eyes will only look at you oh
너도 나만을 바라봐줄래
oh will you only look at me too
우리 서로의 별이 되주길
Let us be each other’s star

My 3 beloved girls, although we are all scattered in 4 different countries, I seriously can't wait to see you guys again. Anyway, we are all 1 Whatsapp message away! Just so you know, I am always missing and loving you all <3

I made a NEW Youtube channel!!

Not sure why I'd rather abandon a channel with 138 subscribers and start from scratch again!! something wrong with my brain?!

I want a new channel where I put my singing covers and the presentable videos that I want to share on my blog (at least I'll try my very best to make them presentable) because I have too many random videos on my previous Youtube channel, so I decided to keep the old channel as my personal use and start a new one.

Here's the link to my new channel:

Click the link above to subscribe IF you like :3 I promise to upload as many videos as possible after my finals.

So to start off my new Youtube channel AND in conjunction with my previous blog post, I uploaded a cover of B1A4's Lonely.

I am seriously addicted to this song. Nearly 2 weeks since the concert, I have been playing this song on repeat for soooo many times! Quite hard for me to play this song on guitar while singing it, so I tried making a karaoke version cover.

I love B1A4 soooo much, especially Jin Young oppa ^^

잘자요~ 굿나잇~
