According to the statistics from the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Taiwan, more than 400,000 foreigners visited Taiwan in 2018 for medical services, of which more than 1/3 are from Southeast Asia and Malaysia accounted for 20,000 for the total number.

Taiwan and Malaysia have been forming closer working ties in recent years in many industry sectors including the medical field. Examples include Chang Gung Memorial Hospital which has strengthened its bilateral cooperation with its peers from Penang and Kuala Lumpur through medical services, personnel training and industrial cooperation.
